I've been using the growband, dermaroller and 5% minoxidil and it works like a charm. Hair loss is so hard to reverse that you need to throw everything at it that you can, so don't expect a single magic bullet. Use multiple products, stay consistent and it will work.

I was pretty convineced that it was basically doing nothing despite using it for nearly 5 months, but my girlfriend said the other day that she thinks the bald spot on my crown is getting smaller, so I guess it is actually working!

Weirdly I can actually notice a big difference to how soft my scalp is. It used to be all hard and tight but now it moves around a lot. My gut feeling is that overall there's more blood flow getting to the follicles because they don't fall out as easily any more. I've been using this for about four months and noticed that my hair is thicker in some spots and I'm losing less hair than before.
