I received a ton of info & suggestions. Unfortunately the only thing that seems to help my insulin resistant mare is soaking the hay, which just isn't feasible in winter. One suggestion which was to add straw to her hay so she would have more to eat and not stand for long periods with nothing to eat, unfortunately did not work. One handful was fine, but as soon as I added another handful a week later she colicked. Tried increasing again after another week & she colicked again, so although it was a great idea, it won't work for her. She is an extremely fast eater that is very good at hay nets & even a 1" hole net doesn't slow her down much. She is doing well, she's just not very happy due to limited feed & having to be kept by herself.

My donkey seems to really like the taste of the M3 oil! I sort of drip over his whole dish of pellets & cubes at night & he races into his stall & starts eating!

In fact, she came through a big livestock auction, where many equines are discarded, after a career as an Amish cart pony, and it's likely her laminitis was a factor in her winding up there. She was also (unexpectedly!) pregnant with a mule and became very cresty-necked as her delivery approached. Over the next year her hormones were all over the place, and exactly a year after giving birth she foundered. That's when we put her on Mad Barn products, including Amino Trace and -- starting a year later -- Magnechrome. The latter especially has been critical to her recovery at every level. She is finally sound and comfortable. Now her mood is excellent and her weight healthy. She gets no grain, only the two supplements and a high-f...
