The old 8th is now out of commission & the replacement in play. Time will tell how well this hole fits in. The new angle this necessitates and elevation it provides on the 9th tee makes this a more interesting hole, and the required shot into this green that Tom Doak detailed in his book “Anatomy of a Golf Course” is actually more relevant for me as long par 4 as a higher handicapper than it was...

Opened in 1894 this is a delightful course consists of 9 holes but with 11 greens. The course is located at the end of the Snake Pass in the High Peak and so is interestingly hilly. This affords beautiful views across the sourrounding countryside. The course has been in superb condition thoughout the summer and plays on full greens through the winter months. It is compact and well defended and wil...

From the moment I drove, for the first time in August 2023, across the bridge I knew I was into something special. Single track road to the course across the whole island was worth the visit alone. I was greeted by the usual welcoming staff that you only find in Ireland. Played with a couple of guys from the 'North' who, familiar with the course, really looked after me, cost me a round in the ba...

The course has been changed around since 2016 and the 1st hole mentioned in the above review is now the 13th and the 18th now becomes the 12th. Many more changes have been made since 2016 including our Course Manager becoming an R & A Scholar. Whilst I am biased being a member I can truthfully say the course has never been better in the 56 yrs I have been there. Every visitor comments on our green...

Carne is among the greatest links in the world but defies the metrics used to split hairs between the worlds greatest courses. Even the most eloquent golf writers and accomplished photographers fail to capture Carne with their words and pictures. Carne is one of those things in life no one can do for you as you have to make the journey there for yourself.

Tralee may have the most breath-taking coastline in Ireland which results in a backdrop to the golf course that is extraordinary. Teeing off the first you are already anticipating getting to the second hole to absorb the coastline. The first is a nice opener but no-one really gives it much thought, “let’s get to the coast as soon as possible”. What awaits at the second hole is one of the best an...

Without doubt one of the best courses in Ireland I have golfed all over the world over many years and have played Tralee a number of times and loved it every time. It is set on perfect land with the back nine in some of the most spectacular dune land and Close to Water vistas you could hope for. Don’t miss it A friend of mine had a hole in one on his birthday on the pat three called shipwreck. Ce...

My second visit after the first some years ago I was keen to return, and again had a thoroughly adventurous and enjoyable game. The course is not too penal but makes demands on your game especially around the greens. This region has some really great courses and the people are extremely friendly even to Australians. Brora is a must play in your lifetime of golf.
